No Man’s Sky 10th Anniversary: From Rocky Launch to Space Legend

The No Man’s Sky 10th anniversary is here: are you ready to head back to the stars?
Developed and published by Hello Games, the game landed on PC on August 12, 2016. Today it runs on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Moreover, it supports virtual reality on PSVR and PC VR. To celebrate the milestone, No Man’s Sky is now on IndieGala with a limited-time promotion.
In-Depth: No Man’s Sky 10th Anniversary
The 2016 launch was an uphill battle. Many players expected more, and the criticism was harsh. However, Hello Games never gave up. In fact, the studio released 40 major free updates in ten years, with no paid DLC.
As a result, 2026 brought the highest player numbers since launch. On August 10, founder Sean Murray celebrated the anniversary with an open letter to the community. Moreover, he shared a striking fact: players have explored less than 1% of the planets.
Then, on September 9, Cosmos (Update 7.0) arrived for free. This time, deep space takes center stage. Now you can direct a space station, join a galactic alliance and build orbital bases anywhere. You can also go on spacewalks and recover wrecks with new salvage tools.
Finally, PC players get DLSS 4.5, XeSS 3 and foveated rendering for VR. Alongside Cosmos, the Our Journey Continues expedition also launched. Each milestone revisits one of the game’s 40 major updates.

What To Expect
✦ An endless universe: 18 quintillion procedurally generated planets, each with unique flora and fauna.
✦ Seamless flight: you move from deep space to a planet’s surface with no loading screens.
✦ Total freedom: you become an explorer, a trader, a bounty hunter or a pirate.
✦ Base building: you build bases on planets and, with Cosmos, in open space too.
✦ Multiplayer and cross-play: you explore with friends thanks to cross-play and cross-save across platforms.
Gameplay
First, No Man’s Sky is an exploration and survival game. You land on an unknown planet and gather resources to repair your ship. Then you upgrade your starship, Multi-Tool and exosuit to survive hostile environments.
Moreover, every choice shapes your playstyle. You can trade rare resources, fight pirates or catalogue new species. Meanwhile, the galaxy lives on: trade convoys, rival factions and ever-watchful Sentinels.
If you love company, there is online co-op. That way, you build bases, command freighters and tackle seasonal Expeditions with friends. Finally, with Cosmos, space becomes a frontier to live in, not just to cross.
